Statement from Nick McBride – Member for MacKillop

“The SE Coastal Lakes Strategy is an important document that gives the public the opportunity to be heard on how best to manage the 6 lakes in the SouthEast.”

I recognise that these lakes have important Environmental, Cultural and European heritage value. I also recognise that they are used widely for recreational purposes, such as duck hunting, boating, fishing, camping and birdwatching.”

“There is no doubt that some groups will be unhappy with the proposed changes, and as such, I urge them to lodge a submission so that their views can be heard.”

“There has to be a balance between management of the environment and managing the expectations of groups who want to continue to use and enjoy these areas in the ways that they have for many years.”
