MacKillop Electorate State Budget 2025

MacKillop Electorate State Budget 2025

05 June 2025

The Member for MacKillop, Nick McBride MP, has welcomed a series of regional funding commitments in the 2025-26 State Budget, with the Bordertown Hospital emerging as one of the key beneficiaries.

The hospital’s aged care facility, Charla Lodge, will undergo a significant $8 million upgrade, with works scheduled to commence in the next financial year. This includes a 16-bed aged care wing to replace existing infrastructure.

“I am pleased to see this investment in such critical infrastructure. The MacKillop electorate has an ageing population, and this upgrade will ensure our older residents continue to receive quality care in a modern, fit-for-purpose facility.”

Other funding commitments in the budget include progressing Stage 2 of the Naracoorte Health Service Masterplan, and completing the Country Health Connect rebuild in Bordertown. The Naracoorte Hospital’s upgrades will also continue – with $1.6 million set to be spent there in the 2025-2026 financial year.

“ I hope that leading up to the State Election, the State Government will give serious consideration to the review of the Naracoorte hospital and invest accordingly - based on either a more significant upgrade or rebuild.”

While no further specific funding was announced for other health infrastructure in the region, there are a number of statewide and federally funded health initiatives, including:

  • $77 million over five years to support the establishment of a Statewide Cancer Network to enhance cancer prevention, early detection, and coordinated care.
  • $42.9 million over four years to assist older people at risk of becoming long-stay hospital patients, including a new Geriatric Outreach Service and Patient Support Initiative to ease transitions into residential aged care.

“I really hope this funding will address critical areas of healthcare that will impact the everyday lives of residents in MacKillop and beyond.” Mr McBride said.
