Naracoorte Hospital Upgrade

Naracoorte Hospital Upgrade

02 August 2023

The Independent Member for MacKillop, Nick McBride MP, has toured the Naracoorte Hospital to get an update on the $8 million upgrade that was announced in Labor’s first budget in 2022-23.

The hospital already provides important services for Naracoorte and surrounds, including 24-hour accident and emergency, medical and surgical procedures, day surgery for adults and children, acute care, obstetric services, chemotherapy services, palliative care, residential aged care and community health.

Stage 1 of the upgrade involves critical compliance works and improving utility spaces to better manage the risks associated with infection control. Stage 2 will see an upgrade to the existing Emergency Department, including refurbishment of the existing ED Resuscitation rooms, new consulting rooms, new waiting area and other improvements that will enhance consumer and staff experience.

The upgrade also hopes to include a new welcoming point of entry, and - while not budgeted for, there are also preliminary plans for an upgrade to the maternity section.

Works are expected to be completed in May 2025.

In addition to the $8million – this year’s State Budget also allocated an additional $1 million to the Naracoorte Hospital. This money will be used to investigate regional service delivery and infrastructure at the hospital. This may include the scoping, analysis and costing of a new facility to service the broader region.

Quotes attributable to Nick McBride MP, Member for MacKillop

“I was pleased to meet with representatives from the Limestone Coast Local Health Network and Health Advisory Committee to discuss the hospital upgrade. As many in my Electorate know, this hospital is outdated and tired. It was built in stages, between the 1920’s through to 2002. The hospital is a vital piece of health infrastructure, so we need to ensure that it provides appropriate health services for the wider region.”

“As the Independent Member for MacKillop it is my aim to work to with the Government to ensure that the best medical services are available in the region. I look forward to touring the hospital again when the Minister visits next week.”
