The MacKillop electorate is located in the south east of South Australia, where it covers an area of approximately 34,138 km2 stretching south and west from the mouth of the Murray River to the border with Victoria.
MacKillop was first contested at the 1993 election, and today includes a range of important rural centres, including Tailem Bend, Lameroo, Pinnaroo, Penola, Millicent, Beachport and Naracoorte, where Nick’s electorate office is located.
MacKillop also incorporates a number of South Australian local government regions: Coorong District Council; Southern Mallee District Council; Tatiara District Council; Kingston District Council; Naracoorte Lucindale Council; District Council of Robe; and Wattle Range Council.
The electorate is largely rural and key industries include agriculture, forestry and tourism, and part of the world-renowned Limestone Coast wine producing region lies within its boundaries.
Some of the most popular holiday, tourism and sporting locations in Mackillop include The Bend Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend, the world heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves, the beautiful beaches of Rivoli Bay near Beachport, the hugely popular holiday location of Robe, and Canunda National Park near Millicent.
This great electorate was named after Mother Mary MacKillop (1842 - 1909), founder of the Institute of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Penola in 1866, and the first Australian to be canonised as a Roman Catholic saint.
Born, bred and living in the region and serving as its local member since 2018, Nick McBride MP is passionate about working collaboratively to secure a bright future for the people and places of MacKillop.
